The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that VVS Laxman will now participate in all senior selection committee meetings, a move aimed at improving coordination between selectors and the Centre of Excellence (CoE). This decision follows concerns over communication gaps, particularly regarding player fitness and rehabilitation timelines, which have impacted squad decisions.
Laxman, who leads the CoE, recently attended the T20I and India A selection meetings in Guwahati, marking the first step toward his expanded role. The change was formalized during the BCCI’s review meeting in Mumbai, where officials emphasized the need for clearer updates on injured players to avoid miscommunication before critical selections.
The decision comes amid ongoing challenges for India’s cricket team, including injuries that have disrupted preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Captain Shubman Gill previously dismissed claims of a communication gap between the team and the CoE, stating that constant monitoring of players’ progress was underway.
However, the BCCI’s proactive measure ensures selectors now have direct access to the CoE’s latest assessments, particularly as the team navigates a tight schedule and potential lineup adjustments ahead of the tournament.
