U.S. Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk has openly addressed the team’s struggles in foursomes play, calling their recent performance in that format a persistent issue rather than a fluke.
The Americans have managed just eight wins in 34 matches since the 2023 Ryder Cup, including a humiliating 5-0 sweep at the Presidents Cup last year—the second such loss in three years. Furyk, who previously served as an assistant captain at the 2016 Ryder Cup, has already begun restructuring preparations for next year’s event at Adare Manor, including a planned scouting trip to the Irish course.
He emphasized that past pairings may not have suited the course conditions, pointing to his own 2018 selections—Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Tony Finau—which combined for a dismal 2-10 record in foursomes during a tough week at Le Golf National. Furyk now insists the team will prioritize course-specific fit over traditional stats, demanding a higher level of preparation than any previous U.S.
squad. With the Americans boasting deep talent, he aims to turn their alternate-shot record around by focusing on strategic pairings and targeted training leading into the 2025 Ryder Cup.
