Current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison dismissed the idea that even a prime Ronda Rousey could have submitted her with the armbar, the signature move that defined Rousey’s early MMA dominance. Harrison, who defeated Rousey twice in their judo careers when she was younger, now stands as a two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo—first in London 2012 and again in Rio 2016—while Rousey earned a bronze in Beijing 2008 before transitioning to MMA.
Both athletes trained together and competed in judo before Rousey became the UFC’s first women’s bantamweight champion, cementing her reputation with the armbar. Harrison, however, insists her elite grappling background—including years of competing against top-level judoka—would make her immune to Rousey’s most feared submission, despite Rousey’s earlier victories over her in their shared judo past.
