
Washington Spirit star Trinity Rodman made a grand gesture to support her boyfriend, tennis prodigy Ben Shelton, during his historic U.S. Open run.
After her team’s 3-0 loss to the Boston Legacy at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., Rodman boarded a private jet to New York, arriving just in time for Shelton’s first Grand Slam singles final. The 24-year-old tennis player, who became the first Black American man to reach a U.S.
Open final since Arthur Ashe in 1972, fell to top-seeded Alexander Zverev in a hard-fought four-set match. Despite the loss, Rodman praised Shelton’s achievement, calling his performance a monumental accomplishment.
Their relationship has been marked by mutual support, with Shelton previously traveling to watch Rodman’s NWSL matches, including the Spirit’s 2025 championship loss to Gotham FC and their semifinal victory over Portland Thorns. Rodman also attended Shelton’s thrilling five-set semifinal win over Carlos Alcaraz, which stretched into the early morning hours before she returned to training shortly after 3:33 a.m.
