Michigan suffered a 13-6 overtime defeat to No. 6 Indiana, as freshman quarterback Tommy Carr completed 20 of 32 passes for 167 yards with a fumble and an interception.
Despite these struggles, Carr outperformed Indiana's Josh Hoover, who threw one interception and managed only 81 yards on 8 of 18 attempts. Carr also showed more promise than backup Bryce Underwood, a highly paid recruit who previously struggled against Penn State.
Offensive coordinator Jason Beck is facing criticism for a rigid system that failed to produce a single touchdown, resulting in 224 total yards on 74 plays, including just 57 rushing yards. This occurred despite an elite defense that limited Indiana to 212 yards and 11 first downs.
While Kyle Whittingham may keep Carr as the starter to build momentum for a Rutgers game, the Wolverines face a difficult upcoming schedule against No. 2 Ohio State, No.
10 UCLA, and Oregon.
