The special thing about Shubman Gill is that he never overdoes things: Abhishek Nayar

Shubman Gill starred for India in the opening match of their series against the West Indies by compiling an unbeaten century. Operating cleanly at the top of the order, he managed 110 runs from 108 deliveries, striking thirteen boundaries and one maximum to secure an eight-wicket victory with fifty deliveries remaining.

This effort marked his tenth century in the fifty-over format, bolstering his average to 95.85 across nine innings in 2026. Former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar praised the batter's methodical approach, highlighting his ability to adjust his technique against slower bowling from pacers and utilize his feet against spin without showing early-season rust.

India will aim to continue this momentum during the second fixture scheduled for Wednesday at Guwahati.
