BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla recently expressed immense pride after the Indian men's cricket squad successfully defended their title at the Asian Games by defeating Pakistan by 19 runs in the championship match. Shukla highlighted the squad's quick adjustment to unfamiliar conditions in Japan as well as the expanding depth of national talent that allowed the organization to field competitive rosters simultaneously across different global engagements.
During the final showdown, captain Shreyas Iyer won the coin toss and chose to bat first, setting up a competitive target of 211 runs for six wickets. Opener Abhishek Sharma led the scoring with 61 runs off 28 balls, complemented by an unbeaten half-century from Tilak Varma and a quick contribution from Shivam Dube.
In response, Pakistan came up short despite a fighting 96-run knock from Hasan Nawaz, finishing their allotted overs at 192 for six while Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube each claimed two dismissals.
