Texas moves ahead of Ohio State in AP Top 25, remains behind Buckeyes in Coaches Poll

November 1, 2026

Voters in the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll have reached differing conclusions regarding the two-loss Texas Longhorns and the two-loss Ohio State Buckeyes. While the AP writers moved Texas ahead into the tenth spot after Ryan Day's squad fell to USC by a score of 30-18 in Los Angeles, the coaches maintained Texas at eleventh and placed the Buckeyes directly above them at tenth.

The debate highlights ongoing questions about how head-to-head results are weighed against losses to unranked programs and overall strength of schedule.

Texas previously secured a dramatic victory against Ohio State in Austin after overcoming a twenty-point deficit earlier in the season. With upcoming road matchups against fifteenth-ranked LSU and nineteenth-ranked Missouri, the Longhorns maintain control over their postseason path as they contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff field.
