Suryakumar Yadav has been omitted from Mumbai's opening Ranji Trophy match against Chandigarh after skipping the team's pre-season training camp. Chief selector Rajesh Pawar pointed to the batter's lack of red-ball match practice over the past year and a half, while association sources also noted a desire to back younger talent like Musheer Khan.
Despite this omission from the red-ball squad, officials are reportedly willing to evaluate the T20 World Cup-winning leader for white-ball captaincy duties should Shreyas Iyer remain unavailable.
