Suryakumar Yadav, the former Indian captain, has opted to return to Mumbai’s club circuit after being left out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for their season opener against Chandigarh. The omission came despite Yadav’s experience, as selectors prioritized younger players who had been actively participating in red-ball cricket.
Yadav’s absence from Mumbai’s pre-season camp—where red-ball players trained for nearly a month at venues like the Cricket Club of India and the MCA’s BKC Ground—was a key factor in his exclusion. Though MCA reportedly reached out to him around ten days before the squad announcement, Yadav did not respond until later, leaving his availability uncertain until now.
Yadav will now make his return to competitive cricket by participating in the President Cup, a local club tournament in Mumbai, on October 11. The move marks his attempt to regain match fitness and demonstrate his readiness for first-class cricket.
While he has informed MCA president Ajinkya Naik of his intent to reassess his Ranji Trophy eligibility later in the season, his immediate focus remains on regaining consistency and proving his hunger for the game at the club level.
