Veteran analyst Sunil Gavaskar has asserted that India must abandon the quest for a direct successor to Hardik Pandya, describing the star all-rounder as completely unique. Speaking on JioStar, he advised management to focus instead on bolstering bowling depth rather than extending the batting order too far down.
In the aftermath of a drawn T20I series against West Indies, Gavaskar pointed to Naman Dhir as a practical alternative who can successfully contribute across both disciplines. Dhir recently provided a strong lower-order display during the final fixture by hammering an unbeaten 24 runs from just six balls.
Alongside Dhir and Axar Patel, Gavaskar envisions a balanced squad composition featuring four specialist bowlers to prevent late-match vulnerabilities.
