Veteran cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara has voiced strong disapproval regarding the exclusion of Manav Suthar from the national Test squad slated for an upcoming tour. Selectors opted for other spinning options including Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav while assembling a lineup featuring four all-rounders for the two-match series beginning November 19.
Pujara argued that even a reserve role would have immensely benefited the developing player by providing exposure to foreign conditions.
Highlighting the rarity of international fixtures in that region, Pujara noted that touring squads visit those shores only every half-decade, restricting opportunities for younger athletes to adapt. Having played over a decade at the highest level, the former batter emphasized that gaining overseas experience is uniquely difficult.
In the same span, discussions surrounding other squad compositions and player valuations have also surfaced among former players.
