Veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has expressed surprise regarding the omission of young spinner Manav Suthar from the national squad for the upcoming two-match away Test series against New Zealand, which gets underway on November 19. The Board of Control for Cricket in India revealed the sixteen-player traveling party on October 16, 2026, choosing Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav as the spin options under the leadership of captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain KL Rahul.
Pujara argued that Suthar deserved inclusion to gather vital overseas experience ahead of a subsequent five-Test tour against Australia, noting that domestic performances in the Ranji Trophy should no longer limit the talented youngster. Suthar previously earned twenty-three wickets across three Test appearances following his debut on June 6, 2026, against Afghanistan, including ten dismissals against Sri Lanka.
