Legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar has defended the surface used during the fourth Twenty20 International, arguing that poor bowling execution rather than the conditions led to India dropping a 247-run target and falling to a 24-run defeat against the West Indies. Shai Hope led the tourists with an unbeaten century before Sanju Samson and other batters attempted a chase that ultimately fell short at 223/9, leveling the five-match series at two games apiece.
Gavaskar emphasized that wayward deliveries such as full tosses eliminated any right of the bowling attack to criticize the pitch. Meanwhile, India skipper Shreyas Iyer noted that the playing surface offered additional bounce and held up slightly during the middle phases of the contest.
