Sunil Gavaskar warned India’s top order that the swing‑friendly conditions in New Zealand will demand playing the ball as late as possible, especially on the green pitches expected at Wellington and Christchurch. He said patience, soft‑handed defence and delaying the shot give batters the best chance to counter movement both in the air and off the surface.
Gavaskar also criticised the two‑Test format, arguing a three‑match series is needed for a decisive result, and praised the team’s extended stay in the country after a full slate of five T20Is and five ODIs. He highlighted the experience of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj as key to challenging New Zealand’s batting, while noting early‑summer weather could make scoring tough until the batsmen settle in.
