World number one Jannik Sinner has announced he will miss the remainder of the 2026 season to address a persistent right knee injury. The 25-year-old, who has not competed since his successful Wimbledon title defense in July, stated that he and his medical team opted for a recovery program to protect his long-term professional future.
Sinner concludes his year with a 44-3 singles record, highlighted by five consecutive Masters 1000 victories and a 10-1 mark against top-10 opponents. His absence significantly boosts the chances of Alexander Zverev, who currently trails by 1,280 points, ascending to the top of the world rankings.
Sinner's season included a semi-final run at the Australian Open, a second-round exit at the French Open against Juan Manuel Cerundolo, and a victory over Zverev in the Wimbledon final. He also defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the Monte Carlo Masters final to claim the top ranking earlier this year.
