Fraser Stewart, the MCC's Head of Cricket, expressed concern regarding the growing trend of players choosing to retire from Test cricket to prioritize lucrative franchise T20 opportunities. While he acknowledged the financial appeal for athletes, he emphasized that governing bodies must work to ensure the long-term viability of the traditional format.
Stewart made these remarks during an event in Karnataka to introduce the local language version of the MCC Laws of Cricket mobile application.
Additionally, Stewart supported the ICC's initiative to trial pink balls in daytime Test matches. He suggested that this measure could mitigate visibility issues during final sessions and potentially boost spectator attendance by making the game more accessible to working fans.
He noted that the decision to implement such changes should remain a collaborative choice between participating cricket boards during bilateral series.
