Silver lining: Mirabai Chanu wins the elusive Asian Games medal

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu secured a silver medal at the Asian Games by lifting a total of 198 kg, comprising 87 kg in the snatch and 111 kg in the clean and jerk. This performance allowed her to finally claim an elusive medal at the continental multi-sport event, overcoming previous setbacks that included a fourth-place finish in 2023 and a 2014 appearance where she placed ninth.

North Korea's Ri Song-gum captured the gold medal with a total of 215 kg while setting a new world record in the clean and jerk at 121 kg, following China's decision to leave the 49 kg division uncontested by their athletes.
