Aryna Sabalenka has cemented her place in WTA Tour history by becoming the most successful player of 2026 in terms of WTA 1000 titles, despite missing out on a Grand Slam victory for the first time since 2022. With wins at Indian Wells and Miami, Sabalenka completed the Sunshine Double—a rare feat achieved by only four other players in history—and now stands tied for sixth all-time in WTA 1000 victories.
However, her season has been marked by inconsistency at the highest level, as she failed to advance past the quarterfinals in any of the six subsequent 1000 tournaments she entered, including a first-round exit at the Wuhan Open, where she had previously won three titles. Meanwhile, eight of the ten WTA 1000 champions this year were newcomers, with Maja Chwalinska claiming her first title in Wuhan after a strong season that included a Roland Garros final appearance.
The only other repeat winner at this level was Sabalenka, though her struggles in later tournaments left her as the sole player with multiple 1000 titles in 2026.
