French tennis star Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard has opened up about battling burnout following a sharp decline in form that has seen him fall outside the ATP top 100. The 23-year-old, who reached a career-high ranking of 29th last season, has not won a singles match since June’s Queen’s Club Championships, suffering seven consecutive losses.
His struggles extended to a Challenger-level event in Roanne, where he lost in straight sets to a player ranked 702nd in the world. Perricard, who won two ATP titles in 2024 and reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, admitted to a difficult period both on and off the court, describing a need to rebuild his mindset and confidence over time.
Despite his recent setbacks, Perricard holds promise for the indoor hard-court season, where he has excelled in the past. His career record indoors stands at 12 wins to nine losses, including a standout 2024 Basel Open victory.
In that tournament, he defeated top-ranked players such as Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, and Ben Shelton, winning four of his five matches in straight sets.
