The PGA Tour’s The Golf League (TGL) made history with its first-ever trade, as Boston Common Golf secured the services of 2019 British Open champion Shane Lowry from The Bay Golf Club. The deal marks a significant shift in TGL’s roster strategy ahead of the 2027 season, when teams will expand to five players.
In return, The Bay received Boston Common’s fourth selection in this year’s roster formation process, a future pick over the next three offseasons, and additional commercial considerations. Lowry, a 39-year-old Northern Irishman with three PGA Tour wins and seven DP World Tour titles, brings a championship pedigree to Boston, including victories at the 2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the 2019 Open Championship.
His partnership with co-founder and Boston captain Rory McIlroy—including their 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans win—adds depth to a team already bolstered by McIlroy’s leadership and camaraderie. Lowry’s arrival also reflects Boston’s ambition to compete for a title, as he joins a roster set to be finalized in the coming days.
