Ben Wiggins, the 21-year-old son of five-time Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins, has secured his first professional cycling contract with the Australian-based World Tour team Jayco-Alula. The junior world silver medalist in the 2023 individual time trial made an immediate impact in his senior debut, finishing in the top 10 of the men’s race at the Tour of Britain in September.
His father, Bradley Wiggins, remains a landmark figure in British cycling after winning the Tour de France in 2012 as Great Britain’s first champion in the race’s history.
Wiggins’ career has progressed rapidly since he began racing as a junior in 2022 with the Fensham Howes-MAS Design team. He later joined Hagens Berman-Jayco in 2024, the U.S.-based squad managed by Axel Merckx, whose father Eddy Merckx is a five-time Tour de France winner.
The young rider also claimed the Under-23 national time trial title in 2023, a year in which he also earned his first World Championship medal. His new role with Jayco-Alula fulfills a long-held aspiration, as he credits a childhood memory of visiting the team’s bus during the 2019 Tour de France as the moment he decided to ride for them.
