President Donald Trump shared a revised layout for the century-old East Potomac Golf Links through an online platform on Sunday, detailing updates crafted alongside architect Tom Fazio. This latest proposal, which follows an initial concept revealed by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum earlier in the year, drops a previously planned nine-hole short course and shifts the main 18-hole track further into southern public green space near Hains Point.
Additionally, the updated schematic omits the perimeter roadway loop, a historic mini-golf facility, and certain cherry tree groves.
Restoration efforts are slated to commence on November 15, moving forward despite an active legal challenge and temporary tree-cutting injunction issued by a federal judge. Local golfers and a regional preservation league filed the lawsuit, arguing that the ambitious renovation threatens local environmental and historical preservation statutes.
Community members have also raised affordability concerns regarding the transformation of the public property into a high-end destination.
