Dominic Silvester, the owner of Premiership Rugby club Saracens, has publicly defended his chief executive, Ed Coetzee, following a report suggesting internal turmoil at the club. In an open letter on Saracens’ website, Silvester dismissed claims of executive-level chaos, emphasizing Coetzee’s progress since taking the role in July.
He highlighted key achievements, including the introduction of the all-female athletics event Athlos and a Gaelic football match between Mayo and Kerry at the club’s StoneX Stadium, as well as securing new commercial partnerships and strengthening the executive team with appointments like Jason Thomas as chief financial officer and Rob Cook as chief operating officer.
Silvester’s response directly contradicts *The Times*’ account, which alleged instability following his 2022 takeover from Nigel Wray, citing high staff turnover and Coetzee’s position as the club’s third CEO in two years. Instead, Silvester framed Coetzee’s leadership as stable and forward-looking, stressing the team’s focus on financial sustainability and maintaining Saracens’ competitive edge in rugby performance.
