Indian cricketer Sanju Samson has been revealed as the primary benefactor for teenage sprinter TM Atul, covering the athlete's training, travel, and equipment expenses. The support began after Samson noticed the young runner's impressive performance at a previous state meet, and it has since included funding for international competition travel.
Following a record-breaking 100m sprint of 10.63 seconds at the Kerala State School Athletics Meet, Samson reached out to the student from New Zealand to offer his personal congratulations. Atul, who trains under Sam Ji and hails from a family of fishermen, previously established junior records in both the 100m and 200m events.
