Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty secured a historic series sweep over the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday. By defeating the top seed, the eighth-seeded squad achieved a milestone never before accomplished in the league's three decades of competition.
Ionescu contributed 18 points alongside seven assists, while teammates Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart each powered the offense with 21 points. Stewart also pulled down 13 rebounds during the dominant road performance that concluded at Barclays Center.
The visiting team established control right from the opening whistle, jumping out to a quick nine-point advantage and leading comfortably at halftime. Despite Minnesota attempting a comeback, the defense held firm, and Stewart sank two crucial free throws following a hard foul from Olivia Miles.
Lynx players struggled to find their rhythm throughout the elimination contest, as Courtney Williams led her side with 18 points and Napheesa Collier added 14. Following the victory, Ionescu emphasized that her squad remains focused on achieving even greater goals in the upcoming rounds.
