Former cricketer S Badrinath has publicly challenged the narrative surrounding Harry Brook, asserting that Abhishek Sharma is currently the premier T20 batter globally. Badrinath cited Sharma's superior strike rate of 179.27 and his tally of 11 centuries across 221 matches as evidence of his dominance, contrasting these figures with Brook's 157.64 strike rate and five centuries in 194 appearances.
He also criticized the frequent rotation of India's opening pair during the ongoing series against New Zealand, arguing that the team should provide consistent roles to players like Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi rather than constantly shuffling the lineup. This critique follows India's 87-run defeat in the fourth T20I, where the team experimented with the opening combination of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan.
The final match of the series is set to take place in Hamilton on November 1.
