Mercedes competitor George Russell expressed grim amusement regarding his recent misfortunes as his championship hopes receded further during the Bahrain Grand Prix held in Malaysia. Having started from seventh position on the grid at Sepang, the driver made optimal use of intermediate tyres on a wet racing surface combined with a rapid start to climb into the runner-up spot behind his colleague Kimi by the first corner, only for an engine breakdown to deny him a podium spot near the end of the event.
