Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension and a £215 fine by the Portuguese Football Federation for abandoning Portugal’s international training camp last month. The 41-year-old captain left the squad during the Nations League campaign in September after sitting on the bench against Norway and learning he would not start against Denmark, later accusing coach Jorge Jesus of breaking promises and betraying his trust.
Ronaldo’s departure followed a public statement where he acknowledged responsibility and apologized to teammates and fans, though he insisted his punishment was justified. The suspension, which began provisionally on October 9, could be backdated, potentially allowing him to return in time for Portugal’s next match against Denmark on November 14.
Meanwhile, Portugal’s federation president, Pedro Proença, has expressed a desire to welcome Ronaldo back to the national team once the disciplinary process concludes. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner remains Portugal’s all-time leading scorer with 146 goals in 234 appearances, including victories in Euro 2016 and two Nations League titles.
