Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has publicly urged the national selection committee to exclude veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami from consideration for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Karthik argued that despite Shami’s continued strong performances in domestic cricket for Bengal, the team’s leadership has already shifted focus to developing younger pacers like Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Gurnoor Brar, Anshul Kamboj, and Auqib Nabi.
Shami, who last represented India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, has been sidelined from white-ball cricket since then, leaving Jasprit Bumrah as the sole established fast bowler in the current setup. Karthik emphasized that India’s pace attack has struggled for consistency without Shami, but believes the selectors should prioritize emerging talent over revisiting the experienced campaigner’s role.
His remarks came during a recent discussion on Cricbuzz, where he stated that the team’s long-term plans no longer align with Shami’s inclusion, despite his proven ability in domestic matches.
