Mumbai Indians are reportedly considering a leadership shift for the 2027 IPL season, with veteran Rohit Sharma potentially returning to the captaincy role alongside Tilak Varma as his vice-captain. This transition would coincide with the departure of Hardik Pandya, who is currently being shopped to other franchises.
The team has also overhauled its backroom staff, hiring Kieron Pollard as head coach, Robin Uthappa as batting coach, and T Dilip to lead the fielding unit. Additionally, Mitchell McClenaghan and Dhawal Kulkarni have joined the coaching setup to assist with bowling development.
These changes follow a difficult 2026 campaign where the franchise finished in ninth place, prompting a strategic rebuild ahead of the upcoming auction in Goa.
