India’s explosive wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the third unofficial Test against New Zealand A, starting November 7, as his recovery from a recent injury remains incomplete. Though he has resumed skill training without pain and shows no clinical symptoms, team doctors have yet to clear him for competitive play.
His absence raises concerns about his availability for the first official Test against New Zealand on November 19, where his experience in the country—gained during India’s 2020 tour—could be critical. With limited time to adapt to conditions, selectors may turn to Dhruv Jurel, who has shown consistent form and already adjusted to the environment.
Pant’s injury, sustained during the Irani Cup final in Jammu, has sidelined him from match practice, leaving his fitness status uncertain even as he undergoes further evaluation through controlled training sessions.
