During the second one-day international in Wellington on November 7, Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli humorously greeted Glenn Phillips at the crease by performing John Cena's signature gesture. The stadium disc jockey had cued the entrance music of the professional wrestler as the batter walked out, matching a similar prank Virat Kohli pulled during the opening match in Auckland three days prior.
The lighthearted tribute quickly spread beyond the playing area, as television commentator Ajinkya Rahane and analyst Ajay Jadeja replicated the hand-waving motion on air.
On the field, Glenn Phillips failed to make an impact following his entertaining reception, falling for a duck when bowled by Gurnoor Brar as New Zealand was restricted to a total of 134. India previously secured a five-wicket victory in the Auckland opener to take an early lead in the five-match bilateral series.
Despite his recent dismissal, Phillips had previously performed strongly during an ODI tour of India earlier in January 2026, finishing as his squad's second-highest run-scorer in a series New Zealand won two matches to one.
