The San Francisco 49ers have acquired defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round draft choice. This move follows Indianapolis parting ways with general manager Chris Ballard after a 2-5 start, which included recent losses to the Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings.
The Colts are currently undergoing a roster overhaul, having also traded Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks.
Buckner, a 32-year-old former 49ers first-round pick, returns to San Francisco to bolster a defensive front currently missing Nick Bosa and Alfred Collins due to injury. During his seven appearances this season, he has recorded four sacks and 31 tackles.
The 49ers previously traded him to Indianapolis in 2020 for a pick used on Javon Kinlaw, but they now look to utilize his veteran presence as they pursue a championship.
