The New York Knicks have clarified that they did not trade reserve guard Tyler Kolek to create roster space for Bruce Brown, who was released in October. According to reports, the team only considered moving Kolek if a trade for a center materialized.
Kolek, a third-year point guard, showed flashes of potential last season, including a triple-double and a standout performance in a 114–113 win over the Indiana Pacers, where he contributed 16 points and 11 assists. Despite speculation about his future, Kolek is expected to remain on the team’s bench for the upcoming season, alongside Pacome Dadiet, as the Knicks finalized their 14-player roster without sacrificing Kolek’s spot.
The Knicks’ decision to retain Kolek was influenced by the signing of James Wiseman, who secured the 14th roster spot ahead of Brown and others. Coach Mike Brown, who previously worked with Wiseman as an assistant on the Warriors, praised the 6’11” center’s athleticism and defensive capabilities.
Wiseman, who will turn 26 in March—just four days after Kolek—adds a versatile presence at the rim, balancing the team’s depth at both guard and center positions.
