Rees-Zammit to return to wing for new season

Bristol and Wales back Louis Rees-Zammit has confirmed his intention to primarily feature on the wing during the upcoming 2026-27 campaign, retaining full-back as a secondary option. The 25-year-old spent nearly two years pursuing an NFL career before returning to rugby last summer, where Bristol director of rugby Pat Lam and Wales head coach Steve Tandy frequently utilized him at number 15 from the autumn onward.

Rees-Zammit started 22 fixtures across domestic and international duties, registering 10 starts on the right wing and 12 at full-back. While he crossed for nine tries overall—scoring seven for Bristol and two for Wales—six came from the wing, including his solitary try of 2026, which occurred during a May road trip against Northampton.

After representing Wales during July's Nations' Championship, Rees-Zammit missed the opening phase of Bristol's pre-season training ahead of the new term. His domestic side finished sixth in the Premiership last season, falling nine points short of the play-offs following a dip in spring form.

Despite matching third-placed Exeter's total of 11 victories, Bristol suffered from an insufficient count of tries and bonus points, while Exeter progressed to the final and lost to Northampton.
