The Colorado Avalanche kicked off their 2026-27 campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars in a matchup that delivered plenty of drama. The game began with a back-and-forth first period, as Artturi Lehkonen opened the scoring for Colorado before Tyler Seguin tied it on a lucky deflection late in the frame.
Tensions flared as Fedor Svechkov was penalized for instigating after a hit on Noah Juulsen, handing the Stars a power play that led to their equalizer.
The second period belonged to the Avalanche, however, as Martin Necas scored twice—first on a one-timer from Nathan MacKinnon and later on a 5-on-3 breakaway—to extend Colorado’s lead. The Stars fought back in the third, with Roope Hintz cutting the deficit to one, but Colorado’s goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood held firm to secure the victory.
The win highlighted Necas’ offensive impact and Blackwood’s clutch performance, setting a strong tone for the Avalanche’s season opener.
