As India gears up for the 2027 ODI World Cup, the future of veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in white-ball cricket has come under scrutiny. With the team management prioritizing younger talent like Axar Patel, Jadeja—now 37—may have been directed to focus solely on Test cricket, according to former teammate Cheteshwar Pujara.
Pujara suggested that Jadeja’s omission from recent ODI squads, including the tour of New Zealand, signals a potential end to his ODI career, especially after his retirement from T20 Internationals. The decision aligns with the BCCI’s strategy to streamline the squad, as Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s recent comeback at 36 further highlights the emphasis on experience over age limits in limited-overs formats.
However, Pujara acknowledged Jadeja’s value as a backup option, noting that injuries to Patel could still open the door for Jadeja’s inclusion in the World Cup squad as an insurance policy.
