Former India coach Ravi Shastri has publicly advised team management to integrate 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into the playing XI, noting that his extended time as a substitute could hinder his development. The teenager has now sat out six consecutive matches, including the recent series opener against New Zealand in Christchurch on October 22.
India successfully chased a 226-run target in that fixture, bolstered by a 94-run powerplay performance from openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. Despite the success of the current opening pair, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner noted that his side remains wary of the threat posed by Sooryavanshi, whose inclusion remains a subject of ongoing discussion.
