The Delhi High Court on Thursday rejected former India captain Sourav Ganguly's plea to halt the theatrical release of the sports drama "Doosra", which is slated for October 23. A vacation bench headed by Justice Dinesh Bhatt said the balance of convenience favored the filmmakers and allowed the film to proceed, while noting the matter will be revisited on Friday.
Ganguly, together with production house Luv Films LLP, argued that the movie used his personality rights and commercial interests without permission, claiming he is the central figure of the story. The film’s counsel countered that "Doosra" is not a biopic, that required permissions for specific footage were obtained, and that rights to the 2002 NatWest Series clips belong to the BCCI, not to Ganguly personally.
