Los Angeles Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson avoided a two-game suspension after successfully appealing his punishment for throwing a punch at Buffalo Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb following Monday night’s 37-34 overtime loss at SoFi Stadium. An NFL hearing officer reduced Jackson’s suspension to just one game, meaning he’ll miss only Sunday’s Week 6 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, with veteran David Quessenberry set to start in his place.
The altercation began after Jackson exchanged jerseys with Bills defensive lineman Deone Walker, leading to a heated exchange with Chubb that escalated into a physical confrontation when Chubb struck Jackson before Jackson retaliated with a punch to Chubb’s face. Chubb later acknowledged initiating the verbal dispute, though he denied making derogatory remarks about Jackson’s mother, instead referencing the Rams’ offensive line’s blocking support.
Rams head coach Sean McVay criticized Jackson’s actions, emphasizing the need for better decision-making on the field. This marks Jackson’s second NFL suspension in as many years, following a two-game ban in 2024 for a separate personal conduct violation, and he remains under investigation for an offseason domestic violence arrest that could lead to further disciplinary action.
