During the opening one-day international, India secured an eight-wicket triumph over West Indies after easily chasing down a target of 296 runs. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill both contributed centuries to the successful chase, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed four wickets to earn the player of the match award.
Ravichandran Ashwin recently discussed this performance on his online channel, expressing his support for Kohli stepping away from the format following the 2027 ODI World Cup. Ashwin noted that maintaining elite physical fitness and batting standards requires immense behind-the-scenes effort, making a continuation beyond that tournament impractical since Kohli has already departed from Test and T20 international cricket.
Additionally, Ashwin remarked that if Kohli manages to equal Sachin Tendulkar's milestone of 100 international hundreds, he would consider both legendary batters to be on completely equal footing.
