Yamaha has officially announced it will skip the upcoming Moto GP event in Qatar due to strict corporate travel bans linked to the regional conflict involving Iran. The decision places heavy scrutiny on whether Formula 1 will proceed with its own scheduled appearance at the venue several weeks later.
Competitors in the motorcycle series previously raised safety worries, though reports suggested riders faced threats of missing later rounds if they sat out. Williams team principal James Vowles noted that governing bodies possess contingency plans in case further alterations become necessary.
Should additional calendar cancellations occur without substitutes, Andrea Kimi Antonelli stands to secure the world title automatically. Formula 1 previously dropped events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia amid ongoing security evaluations.
Yamaha clarified that its withdrawal was reached independently of series organizers and confirmed intentions to resume competing at the Portuguese Grand Prix.
