Pollock still 'open to new opportunities' as Northampton talks continue

Rising England flanker Henry Pollock is keeping his options open regarding his playing future as contract talks with Northampton Saints drag on. The 21-year-old, whose existing deal pays around £150,000 annually and concludes after the upcoming season, recently hired promoter Eddie Hearn to his representative team.

While Saints have tabled an improved package worth an estimated £400,000 yearly, Hearn has publicly rated his client as a million-pound asset, and Pollock has noted the necessity of prioritizing his own interests during a brief sporting lifespan. Although Premiership salary cap regulations restricting marquee exemptions complicate high-value transfers to domestic rivals, ventures in Japan or France present appealing possibilities.

Relocating abroad following the next campaign would keep Pollock eligible for the upcoming autumn Rugby World Cup squad, yet moving outside England would ultimately sacrifice both his international selection prospects and a £150,000 central contract, alongside potential hits to his clothing sponsorships. Northampton remain optimistic about retaining him, having previously freed up squad funds by parting with former skipper George Furbank to Harlequins.

With playmaker Fin Smith locked down since October, the club is also working to finalize fresh agreements with Tommy Freeman, Emmanuel Iyogun, and Archie McParland to safeguard their young core.
