Dani Holgado has taken full responsibility for a dramatic crash at the start of the 2026 Mandalika Moto2 Grand Prix, which sent team-mate David Alonso airborne and triggered a red flag. The incident occurred in Turn 1 as Holgado made contact with Alonso’s bike, sending the Colombian rider into the air and leaving him with a pulmonary contusion.
Alonso was taken to hospital but avoided more serious injuries, while Joe Roberts also missed the restart due to mechanical issues. Holgado, who finished third behind Izan Guevara and Manuel González, later admitted fault, stating he had braked too late and found himself too close to Alonso.
The crash disrupted the race, with Holgado struggling post-restart after damage to his hand and a gearbox issue that caused him to fall behind in the final sector. His season-ending performance with Gresini Ducati in MotoGP next year contrasts with Alonso’s uncertain future, as his 2027 team has yet to be confirmed between factory Suzuki and LCR Honda.
