The Phoenix Suns have made a roster move ahead of the 2026–27 season, waiving second-year guard Koby Brea. Drafted 41st overall in 2025 out of Kentucky, Brea had shown promise as a collegiate sharpshooter but struggled to replicate that success in the NBA.
Last season, he appeared in 12 games, shooting just 43.3% from three-point range, and his performance declined further in Summer League (28.6%) and preseason (30%). With limited opportunities and inconsistent shooting, the Suns opted to clear a two-way contract spot, prioritizing roster flexibility as they finalize their lineup.
The decision underscores the challenges young players face when their primary skill fails to translate at the next level.
Brea’s departure leaves the Suns with one open two-way contract as they continue evaluating their roster. The team has already made adjustments, signing Duop Reath, extending Oso Ighodaro, and picking up Ryan Dunn’s option.
For Brea, the move marks the end of his brief stint in Phoenix, where he never fully solidified his role despite flashes of potential.
