Angel Reese refused to let the Dream lose Game 2 of the WNBA Finals

Angel Reese delivered a historic performance in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals, silencing critics after a reserved Game 1 by leading the Atlanta Dream to a 79-65 victory over the Golden State Valkyries. The 24-year-old became the youngest player in league championship history to post a 20-point double-double, finishing with 30 points and 16 rebounds—a first for any Dream player in a Finals game.

Reese’s dominance extended beyond the stat sheet, as Atlanta outscored Golden State 40-28 in the second half after taking a two-point lead into halftime, with Reese contributing 15 points and seven rebounds by the break. Her defensive intensity and clutch play were pivotal, as Golden State’s Gabby Williams struggled with 14 points on 3-of-15 shooting, unable to replicate her Game 1 heroics.

Reese’s effort also marked the third time in Finals history a player has reached 30 points and 15 rebounds, cementing her as the series’ decisive force ahead of Game 3 at State Farm Arena.

The Dream’s momentum shift came after a narrow 68-64 loss in Game 1, where Reese had lamented her lack of aggression. Her explosive performance in San Francisco—including 10-of-16 shooting and three steals—set the tone for Atlanta’s resurgence, with the team maintaining a +13 point differential when Reese was on the floor.

The victory tied the series at 1-1, handing the Dream a commanding lead in the best-of-five Finals for the first time since 2013. Reese’s all-around impact, from scoring to defense, has redefined the series narrative, leaving Golden State with one game to respond before Atlanta hosts the decisive match.
