Pakistan’s cricket board has pushed back the release of new central contracts for its players, delaying decisions until after the upcoming ODI tri-series and potentially the November Test series against Sri Lanka. Head coach Mike Hesson and the national selectors are prioritizing real-time performance evaluations during the ongoing domestic season and international matches, shifting away from the previous seniority-based system.
The new contracts will categorize players into specialized formats—Test, T20, and white-ball—rather than awarding them uniformly. Despite the usual August announcement, the contracts will be backdated to July 31, when the previous agreements expired, as the PCB aims to finalize selections based on recent form rather than tradition.
The tri-series, featuring Sri Lanka and England, runs from October 18 to 31 in Rawalpindi and Lahore, providing a critical benchmark for player assessments.
