Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is currently not scheduled to undergo surgery on his reinjured left heel, with team personnel instead opting for a recovery program focused on rest and rehabilitation. Head coach Shane Steichen noted that while the receiver was recently observed in the press box wearing a heavy cast and utilizing a scooter, the long-term objective remains a return to the field at some point during the current campaign.
Having been placed on injured reserve, the pass catcher will miss at least the next three games, though initial expectations suggest a potential midseason comeback.
Without Pierce in the lineup alongside the injured Ashton Dulin, the team's offensive efficiency has faced immediate hurdles regarding explosive downfield plays and rushing metrics. Across his first pair of starts prior to the setback, Pierce recorded five receptions totaling 72 yards.
Meanwhile, Dulin is making ongoing progress from an ankle injury, which could potentially alleviate some of the production loss while the team's primary deep threat works through his rehabilitation timeline.
