The Milwaukee Brewers look to complete a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres in Game 3 of the NLDS, following two dramatic victories. Right-hander Dustin May will take the mound for Milwaukee, aiming to build on his strong historical performance against the Padres, including a seven-plus inning outing in August where he allowed just one run and struck out six.
May, who has struggled in parts of his Brewers tenure, has a career 3.14 ERA in 16 appearances against San Diego, with 75 strikeouts over 86 innings. Across his career, he has shown flashes of dominance, including a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts earlier this season while with the Cardinals.
San Diego will counter with Nick Pivetta, who has been dominant in his limited starts this season, posting a 2.86 ERA and 2.21 FIP over 34 2/3 innings. However, his career record against the Brewers is less impressive, with an 8.76 ERA in five starts.
The Padres will look to their lineup, led by Jackson Chourio in the leadoff spot, to overcome May’s challenges. The Brewers’ lineup, featuring Brice Turang in the cleanup spot and Christian Yelich as the designated hitter, will aim to capitalize on Pivetta’s past struggles against them.
The matchup begins at 8:38 p.m. CT on FS1 and the Brewers Radio Network.
